Shots Fired – The New Blackberry 10 is R.I.M.’s Answer to the iPhone and Android

A study of the current statistics reveals that business professionals coming from a slightly older generation continue to prefer the features of a Blackberry phone over other smartphones like Apple’s iPhone series or Samsung’s Android devices.

And now, there is a brand new offering from Blackberry that could potentially tilt the huge IT market into their favor—swaying even younger users who favor Apple or Samsung. Recent leaks of the new Blackberry 10 remain promising, but can the company actually deliver well enough to satisfy the public? Or will Blackberry’s new product be a bitter pill to swallow for enthusiasts?

Perhaps the most striking thing that users will notice about the new Blackberry 10 is the touchscreen feature. Blackberry is popular for continuing to produce phones with actual physical keyboards in a world where touchscreen is king, but since the Torch, Research In Motion has shown an effort to adapt from their comfort zone to produce phones that incorporate both technologies. The user is given the convenience of a touchscreen phone with the good old QWERTY keypad still accessible from it.

What’s more, the Blackberry 10 has a very convenient predictive text feature in its onscreen keyboard, adapting a similar feature that the iPhone possesses. Essentially, the new Blackberry phone has the ability to predict the word that you are going to type, making message composition faster and easier than ever. If the phone gets the word wrong, the user can simply delete it by swiping the screen with his fingertip. Awesome, right?

Another thing that BBM users are excited about is the new color schemes that are to be implemented in the new Blackberry 10. A template of green, black and white plus another one with blue, gray and black are said to be part of Blackberry 10’s new offerings. These new color templates do not only add spice and color to a user’s BBM experience but also have a very practical function—they help increase battery life by minimizing battery use. This new feature also showcases Blackberry’s decision to finally switch to the high definition OLED display technology.

However, there is also one important detail that need to be mulled over. Blackberry 10’s release date is said to be delayed because of the financial difficulties that the company is currently facing. Such a delay could spell disaster for the Blackberry 10, with competitors rushing over themselves to produce new and more impressive phones that could easily eclipse the Blackberry 10.
