‘Viva Forever’ – The Highly Anticipated Spice Girls Musical Comeback

Good news for all Spice Girls fans out there, the British pop idols are making a comeback through a musical called ‘Viva Forever.’ The girls are now giving their fans what they want, what they really, really want — see them reunite ONCE again on stage, almost four years after their successful concert tour in 2007 and 2008.

I grew up listening to the Spice girls, and I can’t even remember when I last saw them together. Posh Spice, Baby Spice, Sporty Spice, Ginger Spice and Scary Spice will once again step on stage after years of hiatus. ‘Viva Forever’ is produced and written by Judy Craymer and Jennifer Saunders, and is scheduled to open late this year in London.

The girls announced their upcoming comeback, and it instantly became one of the most popular searches that day. The announcement also trended internationally in Twitterverse. This just goes to show that after all those years, the girls haven’t lost that ‘Girl Power’ magic. Ladies in London are very ecstatic about the Spice Girls comeback project and their names continued trending hours and even days after the announcement. This is a true testament that the girls were never forgotten, even when they all decided to go their separate ways.

Of course, the newer generation might wonder who they are, but never underestimate the popularity of Spice Girls. Ever since they released their hit singles ‘Wannabe’, and ‘Spice Up Your Life’, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell successfully left an indelible mark in the music industry. Their music lives through up to this day, and even my ten year old cousin know them, surprisingly. She was just singing ‘Viva Forever’ a couple of days ago and when I told her that Spice Girls will be back on stage this year she was even more excited than me.

During the announcement of the ‘Viva Forever’ musical, Posh (Victoria Beckham) said that they will be heralding a new generation of ‘Girl Power.’ Viva Forever will tell the story of four friends who strained their close relationship when the group entered a talent show on TV.

Producers, Craymer (Mamma Mia) and Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous), stressed that the show is not about the band’s biography, but it will have some real-life resonances. Craymer described the musical as a “heartwarming family tale,” perhaps because it will give emphasis on mother-daughter relationship, friendship, and of course girl empowerment.

The musical is set to open on December 11 at the Piccadilly Theatre in London. Preview of Viva Forever, meanwhile, will be shown on the 27th of November, so Girl Power fans, mark your calendars!
