LEGO to Release New “Mars Rover Curiosity” Model

Tim Courtney of Lego announced the results of their Fall 2012 selection reviews last Friday, and have concluded that the next release for the LEGO CUUSOO production line will be the “Mars Rover Curiosity.”

“We learned that this product has niche appeal and strong demand from the space and education communities,” posted Courtney on the company blog.

The Rover beats out two other impressive submissions: The “UCS Sandcrawler” (the Jawa vehicle in the Star Wars films) by mb_bricks and “Thinking with Portals” by Brickthing and Team Jigsaw.

The Sandcrawler, in particular, would have potentially beaten the Taj Mahal as the largest released LEGO set. And the Portal project still may be released, according to Courtney, as they continue deliberating on if they would do so. The images for this line look very promising as well.

This is some nice news while we still await the official release of the much-anticipated Back to the Future set.
