The Love That Never Was: The Unfulfilled Promise of Nokia Air

In today’s world where everybody is constantly looking for ways to improve and speed-up his or her internet connection, and where smartphones, tablet PC’s and laptops have become common fixtures of almost every home, a syncing service that enables users to access all of their data would surely be a dream come true.

Communication, business, education and personal interaction would be much more expedient for everyone.

The possibility of such a service being developed and made available to the market is the reason why the entire IT community, namely tech geeks, young and hip professionals, businessmen, students — really, everyone who owns a tablet, a smartphone or a laptop — is caught up in an uproar.

Sources say that a Finnish company called Luxus has inadvertently caused this pandemonium by accidentally releasing a promotional video for a fictional device called Nokia Air. Apparently, copies of the said video have been released on the video-sharing website Vimeo, and thousands of eager internet users have re-posted it on various sites, causing it to go viral in just a matter of hours.

In a nutshell, the video showcases the features of a new and innovative service called Nokia Air, which allows users to sync all of their data — documents, audio and video files, images and others — and keep it stored in a virtual cloud, making it accessible form a device of your choice.

Unfortunately, further investigation reveals that the said product will not be developed nor released anytime soon.

For a fictional product, Nokia Air managed to generate a virtual storm of positive responses from users eager to experience such a remarkably convenient and handy service.  The possibility of being able to gain access to your data from anywhere is a very attractive one, especially for people who are always on the go but cannot possibly manage to lug around all of their gadgets along with them.

Another thing that has contributed to the popularity of the video is because it showed several sleek and stylish products that were previously unseen or unheard of from Nokia. A very slim tablet, an elegantly polished smartphone and a small slider phone—viewers of the video were literally gushing on how stylish the said device was. But many are disappointed to learn that the device is not yet set to be developed by Nokia in the near future.
