DJ Jazzy Jeff & Mick Boogie’s Summertime Mix: The 3rd Installment

I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with this certain sitcom in the 90’s called the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In the show, Will Smith’s trusted side kick is his real-life hip-hop partner, DJ Jazzy Jeff. And to this day, that connection is still celebrated by adoring fans who haven’t forgotten their comedic and musical stylings.

Willard Christopher, Jr., over time, has gone on to become a Legend, pursue Happyness, lose Seven Pounds, kick ass like a Bad Boy, and save the world in an Armani suit three different times.

Jazz, meanwhile, has kept a lower key than the Fresh Prince. (Last time I saw him was during an Aries Spears stand up special.)

But the last two summers, he has collaborated with Mick Boogie to compile mixes of old school hip hop and R&B songs – from Stevie Wonder to Jamiroqui, to LL, Little Brother, Lauryn Hill, Hov, and even Fresh Prince originals.

These mixtapes have now become something to look out for every summer. And this year’s third drop has been nothing short of feel-good-nostalgia. I personally enjoyed Will’s appearance, rhyming on Kool and the Gang’s “Summer Madness” to kick things off.
