“Ted” Is This Year’s Funniest Movie!

Ted

Seth McFarlane’s live-action feature directorial debut, “Ted,”may well be one of the funniest movies of the season. If you aren’t a fan of McFarlane, creator of TV animated sitcom ‘Family Guy,’ then this movie will surely make you a convert. It also helps that Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis are able to help bring Seth’s twisted imagination to life.

The movie is set in Boston, first with a visit to 1985. Introvert 8-year-old John Bennett receives a big cute teddy bear for Christmas. He names the toy Teddy, and wishes it was alive so he can have someone to be friends with. Lo and behold, the bear comes to life the following morning, pledging his allegiance to John as his best friend, “foreva!”

The media gets hold of the story, and Ted becomes an overnight sensation, visiting Johnny Carson, with magazines covers waiting for him. Cut to over a couple of decades later, and with all the hype dying out, Ted, still living with the now 35-year-old John, evolves into what can only be described as a pot-smoking, narcissistic, horny, alcoholic couch potato.

The challenge in this story comes when Lori (Mila Kunis), John’s live-in girlfriend for four years, eventually gets tired of John and Ted’s immaturity and gives John an ultimatum – the bear or her.

Seth McFarlane wrote, directed, and provided Ted’s voice in this “guy” movie. It comes with a healthy dose of profanity, intense racial humor, sexual innuendos and content, toilet humor, drug use and a cameo appearance by one 80s American superhero.

There isn’t really anything groundbreaking in this flick, but give us a movie that has Sam Jones (the dude who starred as Flash Gordon during the 80’s) in a cameo role, and you are likely to get a two-thumbs up recommendation from this reviewer.

Ted is an R-rated, unapologetic, crude, and totally hilarious movie that pulls no punches in its grossness. If you have decided to watch this film, be sure to keep the kids out of the room. Unless you’re those type of parents.
