Reinventing “The Zoom” – The Nokia Lumia 1020

For Nokia, it’s all about the Camera…

So, here are the particulars: We start with the premise that the Nokia Lumia 1020 is the greatest camera phone in the market today.

In a really smart move to stay competent and relevant in the smartphone game, Nokia is tapping a niche market of photo-triggering, Instagram-addicted buyers who will be attracted to the phone’s powerful new draw.

The specs:

  • 4.5-inch 1280 x 768 display
  • 32GB internal storage
  • 2GB of RAM
  • Dual-core 1.5Ghz Qualcomm S4 Snapdragon processor
  • and, the most noticeable feature, a 41-megapixel PureView camera

While it is nearly identical to the rest of the Lumia 92X roster, the huge lens adds to the bulkiness of the phone, despite it weighing less than the Lumia 920.

The 1020, as you can watch in the demo below, is able to zoom in on images to present clearer detail with objects at a distance. Photos become a lot sharper, and you can even re-adjust the angle directly after taking the shot. It is also a dual-capture camera, providing both a high-resolution photo and a lower one for easy uploading to your favorite photo-sharing application (5 megapixels).

In terms of Optical Image Stabilization, the 920 was the first in the Nokia line to utilize the technology in their cameras. But the 1020 provides a significant upgrade, all because of the bigger lens, larger optics and sensor.

The editing features on the 1020 are also off the charts. You have total control with lighting, ISO, exposure, contrast, brightness, and focus, and you are armed with a really fast shutter speed (starting at 1/16000 of a second), and the zoom and cropping controls lets the user go nuts with how they want their photos.

With the brand new Nokia Camera App installed with Windows 8, users would most likely stick to using this from now on, despite the availability of the previous and more traditional camera application.
