Dalaga NYC’s Special Collection for Typhoon Haiyan Relief

Michelle and Mary Mangiliman, Owners of Dalaga NYC offer a special Dalaga Collection that is geared towards the relief efforts in the Philippines.

The sisters share this message:

Dearest Dalagas,

As some of you know, my sister and I are Filipino and this weekend a devastating typhoon hit the country. Typhoon Haiyan resembled a tsunami, leveling houses and drowning hundreds of people in one of the worst disasters to hit Southeast Asia. Thankfully our family’s area was not badly hit, but 620,000 others are displaced and 9 million more are affected by the typhoon across 36 provinces. They are expecting another storm to hit them tomorrow morning. Relief agencies are immediately calling for ready to eat packaged food, water, medicines and funding.

We are accepting donations at Dalaga during store hours 12-8 Monday through Saturday, 12-7 Sunday for the Philippine Red Cross and will be making regular drops to them at AFYA.  We are not accepting clothing at this time.  Please see the list of donations we will be accepting below.

Dalaga will also be donating 100% of the profits from our exclusive Dalaga jewelry linegreeting cards, and Dalaga Baggu Canvas Totes to Advancement for Rural Kids (ARK).  Over the past couple of years we have been working closely with ARK to build schools and farms in developing parts of the Philippines.  The town of Capiz that we directly sponsor was terribly hit by the storm. You can donate directly to them here and view details about ARK on their Facebook page and http://www.ruralkids.org/.  If you would like to make a monetary donation you can make one online at UNICEF or ARK or view a list of other relief organizations hereWe appreciate any support you can give and hope you’ll help to spread the word.

The Philippine local news and Government are asking for the following:

  • Packaged ready to eat food that don’t require can openers or water (energy bars, shelf stable milk, etc.)
  • Water purifiers, water purifying tablets
  • Water containers
  • Tents and other temporary shelters
  • Freshly laundered and clean blankets, pillows, sheets, towels, etc
  • Flashlights and batteries
  • Hygiene kits with personal care items-soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, sanitary napkins
  • Baby diapers, wipes, bottles, instant baby formula (does not require water)
  • Cooking apparatus-pots and utensils
